About This Activity
Please mark your calendar to join us September 12, 2015 in Mountain Brook, Alabama for the 2nd Annual Harper's Heart Run benefitting the Children's Heart Foundation.
Event details and schedule
Can I walk the 5K or do I have to run?
Either! Whatever you feel comfortable with. Walk, run, skip, jog, or a combination of all. Just come out and participate!
What is the difference in signing up as a team or as an individual?
When you sign up as a team (5+) you receive a $3 per person discount. Each team also comes up with a team name and we will award the most creative team name on Race Day. We will also award the team with the best costumes. So get creative!!!
Are strollers allowed?
Certainly! Miss Harper will be in one! However, we do ask that anyone pushing a stroller start behind all runners and walkers for the safety of everyone participating.
Can children participate?
Yes! We encourage all ages to participate in the Harper's Heart Run. We do ask that each person be a registered participant though. Registered participants have paid the registration fee, as well as signed a waiver or a waiver has been signed on their behalf.
Can I register on Race Day?
Yes, but we suggest registering ahead of time. That way you can guarantee your spot as well as your t-shirt size. Race Day registration will end at 7:15 a.m.
What is included with my Harper's Heart registration fee?
Each paid participant will receive a Harper's Heart Run t-shirt. All partcipants excluding virtual runners will receive a Participant package full of a wide variety of goodies from our sponsors including pens, bracelets, cookies, coupons, and your race day bib. Runners will also have access to our Runner's Expo for post-race refreshments, including Jim 'N Nick's cheese biscuits to our first 300 registrants
Where and when do I pick up my Harper's Heart Run race packet?
Pre-race packet pickup for TEAM REGISTRATIONS will be on Thursday, September 10th at The Trak Shak in Homewood. Individual participant packet pickup will be on Friday, September 11th at The Trak Shak in Homewood. For directions, click HERE
What is chip timing?
A chip is placed on your race bib that times your start time and finish time. When you cross the starting line, it registers that you've started and when you cross the finish line, it clocks your time. Because you may not cross the start line for a couple of minutes, this captures your accurate race time. To be eligible for awards, you must be chip-timed. Chip timing is an additional $3.50 (the approximate cost to us) and must be selected when you register on the website.
What happens in the event of inclement weather
I registered, but now something's come up and I can't participate? Do you offer refunds?
Unfortunately all registrations are non-refundable, but we will be glad to mail you your t-shirt!
Why are you donating the proceeds to the Children's Heart Foundation instead of Harper's Heart?
If Harper would've been born approximately 30 years ago, we would've been told to enjoy our baby while we had her because there was nothing that they could do to save her. Thanks to miracles the Lord has performed in her body and the advancements made in congenital heart defect (CHD) research, our baby girl has a hope and a future. There is no way to "cure" Harper's heart. This is a path that Harper will be on for the rest of her life. And with further advancements in CHD research, there will be better options for her in the future than there are even now.
Also, we have such a strong support system of family, friends, and complete strangers. But there are so many others who don't have that around them. This is something we can do for EVERYONE affected by CHDs, not just Harper.
CHD Research is grossly underfunded in America. Only a fraction of a penny of medical research funding is designated to CHD research. So have chosen the Children's Heart Foundation who is the leading organization in funding research for CHD's.
The Harper's Heart Run will go on, rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, there will be no refunds. All proceeds will still be donated to the Children's Heart Foundation.
