Run: 3.1 miles
XTERRA gives athletes around the world a chance to race in off-road triathlons in some of the most spectacular environments on the planet. XTERRA Auburn will take place August 20th, 2016 at Chewacla State Park in Auburn, Alabama. The swim will take place in the park’s 26-acre swimming lake, while the bike and run will highlight the park’s 25+ miles of mountain bike trails. The bike portion will include scenic views of Chewacla Lake as well as the park’s feature waterfall before returning to transition to start the run. The run begins on the beginner CAMP trail which showcases the park’s campgrounds, and continues through the famous “Kick Six” trail, which was under construction the weekend of Auburn’s famous comeback against the University of Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl.
XTERRA Auburn is a USAT sanctioned event. This sanctioning process ensures that the event organizers have taken outlined steps to ensure a safe and fair race. It also allows USAT athletes the ability to compete in quality events and potentially become a nationally ranked athlete.
In accordance with USAT requirements, all competitors at all USAT sanctioned events must have a USAT license. You may purchase an annual license, which is $45 at their website. You may also purchase a one-day license for $12 when registering for the event. USAT members must present their current membership card at packet pick-up, or they will be required to purchase a one-day license at that time.
Wave Swim Start
The XTERRA Auburn swim will take place at Lake Chewacla inside the Chewacla State Park. This event will feature a wave start, which means that athletes will start in groups of 10-40 and swim a 750 yard course around the lake. Each athlete will have a timing chip on their ankle, so their individual time will not start until their wave begins.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be presented to the winners of each age group.
For those who prefer to race one or two segments of XTERRA Auburn, Tri Auburn is offering a relay option. Relay teams will consist of two or three person teams where each member will complete one or two segments of the event and “pass the baton” to the next member in the transition area. There are no age groups for the relay division, relay teams will compete for the top 3 fastest relay teams.
Each participant will receive an event t-shirt, swim cap, and a packet filled with sponsor gifts and promotions. Every finisher will receive a finisher’s medal.
